Specialist training beyond dentistry.
All of the specialists at Riverpoint have completed an additional 3-5 years of full-time postgraduate training after their dental degree in accredited university programs.
Dr Padraig McAuliffe is a specialist prosthodontist. He qualified from University College Cork in 2002, became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2004 and completed a three-year full-time clinical doctorate in prosthodontics at Trinity College Dublin in 2010, graduating with first-class honours. He later worked with Professor Gilles Lavigne's team in Montreal, developing further expertise in bruxism and the dental management of sleep apnoea.
His clinical interests include bruxism, tooth wear, failing dentures, complex bite problems, full-mouth rehabilitation, implant-supported restorations and oral appliances for sleep apnoea. He has published and lectured on prosthodontics and bruxism.
Dr Emily Clarke is a specialist periodontist and implant dentist. She qualified from Dublin Dental School in 2001 and received the Sheldon Friel Award for the highest overall result in her final examinations. She completed the MFDS examination of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2004 and a three-year specialist programme in periodontology and implant dentistry, receiving a first-class doctorate in 2008. Her training was accredited by the European Federation of Periodontology.
Her work includes non-surgical and surgical periodontal treatment, soft-tissue grafting, crown lengthening, ridge augmentation, implant placement and treatment of peri-implant disease. She is active in professional education and lectures to dentists and hygienists.
Dr Norma O'Connor provides oral surgery services for patients referred to Riverpoint Specialist Dental Clinic. She studied dentistry at University College Cork, graduating with Honours in Oral Surgery in 2004. She was awarded Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2008. She completed Oral Surgery Specialty Training at the Edinburgh Postgraduate Dental Institute from 2010 to 2015. During this time, she completed her Membership and Fellowship examinations in Oral Surgery with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. She also completed a master's degree in Oral Surgery at the University of Edinburgh in 2013, graduating with distinction.
She worked as a Consultant in Oral Surgery at the Edinburgh Postgraduate Dental Institute until 2020 and has been part of the Riverpoint team since 2016. She is registered as a Specialist in Oral Surgery with the Irish Dental Council. She provides a full range of oral surgery services under local anaesthetic or intravenous sedation as required. She is registered and fully participating with the major insurance companies, including VHI, Laya, Irish Life and Garda Medical Aid.
